The MYO Pain Relief Center specializes in a unique and highly effective non-surgical, non-drug approach.  We relieve chronic and acute musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction with a non-invasive treatment called myofascial trigger point therapy.  By identifying and treating the underlying causes of muscular pain and by teaching self-care techniques, we help patients relieve their pain problems and prevent recurrence.

If you’re like millions of Americans, you may suffer from referred pain caused by myofascial trigger points. Largely due to lack of knowledge and understanding amongst mainstream healthcare professionals, myofascial pain and dysfunction frequently goes undiagnosed.  While trigger points are not life-threatening, left untreated, they can lead to chronic myofascial pain syndromes which severely reduce the quality of life and at times cause economic hardship due to huge medical bills and lost time at work.

Pain Free Full Function Ltd
Sharon Sauer
1822 S Desplaines St
Chicago , IL 60616
How long should the appointment be?
The initial treatment is normally scheduled for 90 minutes to allow for initial evaluation, treatment and some self-care training. Subsequent treatments are normally scheduled weekly for 60 minutes. For patients visiting from outside the Chicago area, we like to schedule longer and more frequent sessions to permit as much treatment and training as possible within the duration of the visit.
What is the cost of treatment?
Treatments are billed at a rate of $200 for each 60 minute interval.

The initial treatment & evaluation is $300 for 1.5 hours.

Here are a few additional cost-related details to consider:

Duration of Treatment After your initial evaluation, your therapist will give you an estimate of the number of treatments required to resolve your ailment. Patients are often able to achieve their goals within 6-8 treatments, but depending on your specific condition presented, it may take fewer or more treatments.

Reducing Your Total Costs Patients can reduce the extent and total cost of treatment by taking a proactive approach to self-care treatment. The more consistent you are with self-care, the faster you can help your body begin to heal, thus reducing the overall number of therapeutic treatment sessions you might require.

Forms of Payment Treatments are to be paid at time of service by major credit card, check or in cash.

Insurance Reimbursement While we do not accept insurance directly, we do provide receipts in the form of superbills documenting the appropriate treatment codes for the services performed. You may submit this documentation for insurance reimbursement. Since every insurance company and coverage plan is different, we cannot guarantee that they will reimburse you. Please contact your insurance company directly to confirm your coverage and the process required.

Charge for Missed Appointments A minimum charge of $90 will be billed for confirmed appointments when the patient does not cancel within at least 24 hours of the appointment time. Please do let us know if a conflict or emergency arises so that we can reschedule you for a better time.

How to prep for the 1st visit?

Pre-Appointment Evaluation

A significant portion of your first visit will be devoted to a full therapeutic evaluation, so that your therapist can determine the best treatment plan for you.  To help facilitate the evaluation process, we ask that you download, print and complete the pre-appointment patient history forms.   The questionnaire covers topics like:

  • The nature of your pain and dysfunction
  • When the pain or dysfunction started
  • What makes it better / worse
  • What other therapies were tried and how well they helped
  • What are your goals?
Completing this form in advance of your treatment, will help to expedite the process when you arrive. If for any reason you are unable to print and fill out these forms in advance, please be sure to come to the clinic 15 minutes early so that you’ll have time to complete them before your session.

Arrive Early

Try to arrive a bit before your appointment. One goal is to help you relax your mind and body. If you have time to park, arrive, use the rest room and collect yourself, our work together will be much more productive.

What To Wear

During the myofascial trigger point therapy session, your therapist will need easy access to the areas of your body that require treatment.  Depending on what area is being treated, your body may be placed in a variety of different treatment and stretch positions and you may be asked to stand and walk around so that your therapist can assess your posture and gait.  Also, we often use warm water bags to help you to relax in either a seated or prone position on the treatment table. We recommend that you wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that can be adjusted so that your skin is easily accessible for treatment. If you feel comfortable, you may also choose to wear your undergarments or a swim suit. As necessary, you can be draped in a sheet to maintain your privacy.

Questions & Concerns

What Is Myofascial Trigger Point Therapy?
The word myofascial refers to the muscle tissue (myo) and the connective tissue that is in and around it (fascia). When stressed or injured, the muscle and connective tissue can form trigger points — or contracted knots — that cause pain and tightness. Our therapeutic approach focuses in three areas:

Evaluation: Understanding where your pain is felt helps us determine which muscles may be causing it. For example, certain kinds of low back pain can be referred from trigger points in the abdomen. So, before we dive into treatments, we evaluate the possible sources of your pain.

Treatment: Treatment consists of massage, manual or acoustic compression, stretching and contraction. Some patients may tolerate only very slight pressure at first while others may request a much greater level of compression. The patient is the determining factor.

Self-Care: Chronic pain yields best to frequent treatment. As such, we teach you simple self-care techniques to help you deal with acute activations and speed the healing process in between formal treatment sessions. We often recommend two short self-care sessions daily especially at the beginning of treatment. Working together in this way, we can accomplish more rapid and complete pain relief.
